First of all I agree that this NIL money and Transfer Portal are destroying college football. College basketball probably isn't too far behind. But as you've come to expect from me here's the other side.

the photographer probably has a copy right, or whoever his employer was. they probably get paid all the time. Has Laettner seen a dime?

This is the same argument I've made about Tiger's famous chip in on #16 at Augusta. It's used over and over and other people make money off of it - and the true artist gets nada.
Amateur athletes have been exploited for years while they make a small number of other people rich. Some of them get pad eventually when they turn pro. Some never get that pay day. I don't know what the answer is but it's hard for me to begrudge these people making bank. I wish I could have.
