Here is the timestamped link that should go right to it: https://youtu.be/gytETRagEQk?t=17862
It happened at 9-7.
Argoitia looked at his cesta almost immediately after he threw and I seriously doubt he could fake a broken cesta with the whole fronton there to see it. Or come up with a lie that fast.
Benny Buneo has said that Argoitia is very mature for his age and I would say his game is very mature for his age as well. He has held his own and shown that he can compete on equal footing with the rest of the roster. I look forward to watching him progress.
I have seen no "bad decisions" from him other than occasionally being caught out of position. But that happens to all players.
He obviously was thinking it would go well over Arrieta's head, like thousands of other throws we have seen from almost every back-courter, including him. Arrieta was around the 9 line, so it is not like he was standing directly in front of Argoitia. If he was, then yes, that would be a "bad decision" and call into question Argoitia's judgement. But that is not what happened.
My opinion is that Arrieta is telling the truth and his cesta was broken and was not functioning correctly. I do not think he could get away with lying, even if he wanted to. The broken cesta would be there for everyone to inspect. He could not just throw it in a locker or in the trash in an effort to hide it. That would look too suspicious.
