the journey is my home

It was her turn to feel her cheeks flush, and Aase turned her head away slightly, her blue gaze fastened to the ground briefly. Not wanting to show how flustered his compliment had made her. “Thank you.” She said, not finding the words to argue, even if she wanted to deny what he said. Ashteroth was the strong daughter of Xiomara. There were plenty of other Solomon daughters that had made a name for themselves, she was sure. Aase did not have the drive, nor the desire as they did. All she wanted to do was see the world, after she cured her bout of homesickness first.

Brothers is what had Aase turning her gaze back to Nahawi. There could be many references to the word. She could even use it, with how many siblings she has. But it was the way the red stallion used it, and the threat that followed. That she might be in some sort of danger if she stayed here alone. The anxiety that had been slowly leaving Aase quickly dropped like a rock in her stomach once again. Naďve, but not stupid, Aase knew exactly what brothers Nahawi was talking about. From the warnings she had always been given, the young mare knew she should be running, and yet she was still standing.

“I have a sister in the Peak.” Aase replied, keeping her voice casual as she had been doing throughout their conversation. She didn’t want Nahawi to know how uneasy she had become at the mention of the Lagoon. “I haven’t seen her since she left home. Could you take me there?” It wasn’t a destination on his list, but Aase asked anyways.
