Her sire had decided to go with his kin, and the family had gone with him.


At first, Pyre had lingered in the Hills, torn between following them, and staying in the only home she had ever known. Even when days passed, the young mare lingered on the shoreline where she had last seen them. Half hoping she would see their bobbing heads returning on the horizon, and half wishing she was brave enough to fling herself into the ocean after them. Why had she been so stupid, thinking she would be better off here when Ra had asked if she would like to go with them?


Evrain would have given her a proper spot among his herd. Provided protection like he would have any of his children. But when her hope had died, and Pyre knew her family really wasn’t coming back, the Hills no longer felt like home. It was clearly time that she move on with the next chapter of her life. No longer a carefree child, she needed to make her own family.


Swimming to the Island she had known to be the Crossing wasn’t so difficult. The water was calm, the sky clear and sunny. Almost as if it was smiling down on her for her decision. Pyre, unfortunately, did not see it that way. Instead, the peaceful setting as she climbed onto the foreign green land, made her uneasy. Nothing was ever supposed to be this nice. With a wary snort, she explored further inland until she reached a wide expanse of green grass. As if the trees she had traveled through was not bewildering enough, the abundance of grass to eat was marvelous. Pyre had never seen anything like it in her life and could only stand and stare in amazement.
