Vadim

stallion | draft x | dunalino pintaloosa | 18hhs

The now long haired stallion stood on the shore of Tinuvel, his green eyes cast across the dark water towards the Crossing. The moment Parvati had told him to leave, he hadn’t looked back. Not even now, as he hesitated at the water’s edge. It wasn’t anything here keeping him rooted in place, but the land beyond. This entire time, season upon season that he had spent away from the Lagoon, he had thought of nothing else but going back. That thought had grown weaker to the point he had almost forgotten the obsession. But now he was faced with it all over again.

With a loud beckoning call to Miriella, Vadim knew he couldn’t hesitate any longer. So he stepped from the dry land into the sea. Letting the cold water seep through his feathered legs until it bit into the skin beneath before turning it almost numb. Vadim shivered, then thrust himself quickly into the water so he had no more chances to change his mind.

By time the pale stallion emerged onto the Crossing’s shore, the water had warmed and the summer air chased away any cold that lingered. It felt nice, if he were being honest. After spending such a long time in the humidity of the swamp, and then seasons in the badlands, Vadim had grown to hate the cold. Now, he hated it for more than just the chill of the air. If he could help it, Vadim doubted he would ever return to Tinuvel.

Instead of going straight to the Lagoon to confront Psych, he wandered the Crossing territories instead. He needed to find his words first, and his anger; but despite the time that passed, Vadim couldn’t find either. Perhaps it had been a mistake to come here instead of going straight to the Badlands where he….. belonged? Was he really about to think that? Shaking his head, he pushed away that thought, still just as undecided about that as he was the Lagoon.

Lost in his thoughts for so long, Vadim had long since dried off, and was now in the Commons. Blinking his green eyes into focused, he noticed a mare walking alone. The feelings he’d had as a colt, and the teachings Tyr had given him about protecting mares in the Commons somehow resurfaced. It had been so long, it almost felt foreign. Vadim had thought those instincts had died a long time ago.

Despite being just as vulnerable as the mare, Vadim found himself walking over to her anyways as she lingered on the border. “Is it really worth it?” He murmured in question, stopping a few steps away. “Handing away your freedom to the unknown?” Somehow, since the last time he’d been here, Vadim had gained his father’s voice and it nearly startled him.
