I agree, both Dania for me.
One thing about Dania singles that people may not fully appreciate is that the demands for being proficient on that huge court are extremely high, such that most backs simply cannot hang with the fronts.
Even over the years, if just about any other backs than Atain, Cuvet, or Iru were temporarily placed in the championship singles game, their results were dismal. Achotegui, Oyarbide, Urtaran are a few quick examples.
OTOH, the singles game that preceded that was mostly late backs, and the few fronts that were mixed in would always have winning records. Korta, Foronda, and Olate come to mind. I think at one point Olate won about 1 in 4 over the whole season in that game.
I've used this term before here - Serve and Take Control. Comparable to Serve and Volley in tennis. Serve as deep as possible and take control at center court with passing shots or kills. The fronts all have incomparably more lifetime experience serving, and also catching and throwing from up close.
I don't have the energy right now to tabulate the entire singles records for this season, but from memory almost none of the backs had winning stats. You could say that's a bad thing, and dislike this singles for that reason, or - as I do - respect the skills of the fronts that allow them to dominate. FWIW, I think that many of the backs were improving as they went along, including depth of serve, and Toucoullet in particular upped his singles game in the closing weeks.
At any rate, I like the much greater variety of situations that come up on a traditional court.
