Haven't tried this yet, but I'm thinking about it. Maybe some day. For fun. Major work, yes.
The main idea is that top level observational handicapping is almost certainly more powerful than WPS stats. But it has a lot of the problems in that it is labor intensive, inherently fuzzy, judgement based, and likely to vary from one evaluator to the next. With that in mind, we can start by ID'ing observational factors that are the most objective.
The Ride Em Cowboy factor would be "How long did you last on that bronco"?
Eg, we look at videos from the last season of Miami, and take note of the timestamps for every player facing Goiko in singles when he is serving. Alternatively, we could use 'all vs the median player', or even how long to KO the weakest player.
We would combine the point outcome with the point duration and see if that correlates with WPS success.
So, although that would be objective, would it be closer to random garbage or useful info?
