Oswin found herself smiling as Asphara confessed her home needed her now, but exploration would lie in her future. It was a wise decision to make, and Oswin found herself even prouder for the young red mare. It was silly she hadn’t done what she could to introduce herself sooner so they might have discovered this potential friendship much earlier on, but she was happy she had now. She was happy she and Tyr had the conversation they’d shared and for his wise suggestion that she make the Ridge the safe place she’d wanted to make the Peak.

Perhaps, for the first time since she’d chosen to turn her back on the sisters she felt turned their back first, Oswin was beginning to feel as if she had a purpose again. At her age it almost felt like she was getting a second lease on life.

What do you think, Oswin? Asphara asked, and Oswin glanced from the mare down toward where her little spitfire daughter was playing. What kind of trouble should I expect with that thing?

Oswin laughed softly. “She definitely seems like the sort who’s going to have to learn her own way, which likely means she’ll get into some sticky situations you try and warn her against.” In a way, Rosalina reminded her somewhat of Maia. As soon as that girl was able, she was hardly ever at Oswin’s side.

“But I think she’ll outgrow it eventually,” she added, “and so long as she knows safety and comfort are found with you, she’ll never stray far from your side.”

There was only a brief moment before she added with a grin, “In the meantime, I don’t think my body can stand carrying any more young ones, so I’ll help you keep an eye on her.” She laughed. “It truly takes a herd to raise a foal.”
