Lake Simcoe opened up yesterday. I have records of ice cover on Lake Couchiching and Lake Simcoe for over 120 years. Lake Couchiching always freezes over and Lake Simcoe usually freezes over in February and March for most years, sometimes longer. There are one or two years that Lake Simcoe did not freeze over. I can't remember the year or years but it was around or before 2000. This is the earliest year to open up again after it did freeze over. Replies: There have been no replies.
