Is Wyndham Clark up to something? IP: 108.212.84.252 Posted on March 18, 2024 at 11:13:15 AM by Chuckster
I've seen a couple of articles this morning about chatter on the internet, people calling into question Wyndham Clark and how he plays shots out of the deep rough. Maybe he's smart, maybe he's taking advantage of the rules as they now stand. I don't know. What they are saying is, he appears to be deliberately walking around near the ball prior to the shot. A few weeks ago fans say cameras caught him walking directly behind the ball multiple times (almost stepping on the ball) pushing the grass down behind the ball. Is that legal? I don't know.
Yesterday on 12 his ball was in deep rough near a sprinkler head behind the green and he was allowed to drop the ball due to his stance. He kept pacing back and forth looking at a spot to the left (no closer to the hole) but was walking a lot on the grass area behind the ball as he appeared to be making a decision. He even put down a driver pointing to the area directly left of the ball, again walking back and forth in the area BEHIND the ball as he looked it over.
When he finally decided to drop, he dropped the ball in the area BEHIND the ball where he'd been walking. Is that legal? I don't know?
Is he being smart or is he basically cheating? I don't know.
Maybe this kind of stuff has always been going on, maybe there's nothing to it at all. It's just that now everyone has a camera, everybody's watching...
