This essentially means that it is acceptable to use these pages to seek sponsorship for The Fusiliers Aid Society (which includes Fallen Fusiliers), and The Fusilier Memorial fund only. We now have our own dedicated justgiving site (http://www.justgiving.com/fusiliersaidsociety), which you can use to help raise money for your cause. If you let RHQ (Asst Regt Sec) know the specific cause you are raising money for, it will be directed to the correct fund. Messages soliciting sponsorship for causes or charities other than the Fusilier ones mentioned above should not be placed on the message board and may be removed by the Webmaster. Albert Chorley, Service Number 6743 - Update
IP: 84.68.213.155

Hello,

A small update research into Albert Chorley. For the benefit of anyone not familiar with Albert, I basically found his Allied Victory medal in my in-laws basement earlier this month, and we are trying to trace how it came to be where it was. In that process I've become embroiled in digging up the man behind the medal as a bit of a project.

Just to recap on what has been going on;

- Physical search of the basement - Not 100% complete but a good search has been done, no other medals or related items have been found. It's a reasonable sized basement with lots of stuff in though, and it may provide us with more clues yet.

- Research War Diaries - I'm picking through the War Dairies of the Lancashire Fusiliers. They are a hard-read, not just because some of the handwriting is hard to read (but that too!) but because you're reading through the casualties, killed, missing it's incredibly dark at times, but also uplifting and insightful too. Reading from September 1915 to July 1916 I have not seen the name CHORLEY mentioned specifically, but this is not conclusive as of yet, more time is needed. I'm actually using an AI tool to decipher some of the harder handwritten parts, with mixed results, so this is progressing in sorts. I have seen ALBERT mentioned, but this seems to relate to the location in Albert, France.

Other bonus objectives / things on the table;

- Locate a photo of Albert or the 11th Battalion that he was in / a part of (perhaps could determine him present if others in it can be named)
- Continue to follow the family ties more - There is quite a bit of untapped census information I've not yet even looked at. For now the focus is on Albert and his movements in the War.
- Continue to follow Albert's work link with London and North Western Railway. Not much came back from the secretary when I enquired, but there may be more to find in physical libraries.
- Speak to someone at the Fusiliers museum in Bury, you never know they might have a nugget of information that'll help. I live in Manchester so I'm not far away.

I'm also pleased to say that there is now a website dedicated to Albert Chorley where you can see documents relating to Albert, Lancashire Fusiliers War Dairies and more. I'll be attempting to form a sort of timeline of Albert's life and his final movements in the Great War at some stage. Updates to the website may be sparse at times, given work / life commitments, but it will remain online forever. You can view the website here;

Finally, as a thank you in getting me started with Albert's research, I wanted to donate to the running of this website -I have emailed Peter Barton for the bank details but I've not heard back yet. More than happy to donate if he gets back to me.
