RECORDING THE NEWSCAST

There was a time when recording the newscast was as big a sin as anything else in the industry.

When sports events would push newscasts back to midnight or later, there was always someone that would say, ‘We should just record the newscast.”

That person was often looked at as someone with 3 eyes and horns coming out of their head.

Despite recording the newscast, which would air just a couple of hours later, it was NEVER an option.

Well, as they say, the times are changing.

Scripps and Allen Media are both in the recorded news game, and they act like it’s not a problem.

Scripps has been recording newscasts at a number of its stations, and you can add WKBW (Buffalo) to that list.

Growing up, before the 11PM newscast started on WKBW, a voice would come on and say, “It’s 11:00, do you know where your children are?”

Now, the voice should say, “It’s 11:00, and here is the news we recorded a few hours ago.”

New is the first letters of News, the news is supposed to be immediate and not pre-recorded, just to save your corporate overlords a few dollars.

A source tells FTVLive that Allen Media’s KADN in Lafayette are going to record weekend newscasts in an effort to save money.

FTVLive reached out to the station, we didn’t hear back.

TV news has been live for decades. Now, companies that care more about money than journalism are looking to change that.

Viewers deserve to get their news live and any company that is recording newscasts, is turning their backs on the viewers.

Shame on them!
