BT at The Black Cat, Wash D.C.

Outstanding show last night from an obviously re-energized Buffalo Tom at the venerable Black Cat in Washington, D.C. Washington has always been good to Buffalo Tom, and once again an absolutely packed house saw the boys roar through a set that lasted a little over an hour and 35 minutes, deviating from the original set list to take a few special requests. I got to take my 14 year old daughter who wanted to be up front, so we were dead center front row, and she had the time of her life.

I've traveled to Boston several times to see BT at TT's and the Middle East over the years, so it was nice to see them in my backyard for the first time in what I 'believe' is about 12 years. They last played D.C. at the 9:30 Club in 1995, on the Sleepy Eyed tour. I can attest, the crowd thought it was FAR too long since they played here. Also, I was pleasantly surprised to see/hear the crowd singing along with all the new songs, as well as the old.

Original Set List:

Staples (played)
CC and Callas (played)
Sodajerk (played)
Thrown (played)
Summer (played)
Treehouse (played)
Mineral (played)
You'll Never Catch Him (played)
Kitchen Door (played)
Scottish Windows (played)
3 Easy Pieces (NOT played)
**Tangerine** requested, outstanding sing along (Just a little Haiku, To say how Much I Like You!)
Velvet Roof (played)
I'm Allowed (played)
Bottom of the Rain (played)
Late at Night (played)
Taillights Fade (played)

**Late At Night** A bunch of girls were going NUTS at the front right of the stage, requesting this song. Bill asked if one of them could sing it because Chris couldn't remember it...but Chris said, "I'll do it" and they ripped into it, one of the highlights of the night. There were a lot of girls actually screaming. At the end, Bill said a little sheepishly, "You know, that was in a T.V. show", to more cheers. Finally, Bill said, "The last time we had girls screaming at a Buffalo Tom show was.....well, we NEVER had girls screaming at our shows..." to much laughter.

Frozen Lake (played, outstanding)
Birdbrain (played)
Wiser (played)

Again, a tremendous, high energy show that had just about everthing a fan could want to hear. I'd have enjoyed a few more of the new songs (Lost Downtown, Renovating). About the only song I heard requested that wasn't played was "Rachael".

Thanks a lot, guys...Here's hoping it ain't twelve ####ing years before you show up in our yard again!!!
