Allright here goes. Thanks to Dan for posting the song list. The show was absolutely fantastic and well worth the trip. I haven’t seen the guys live in a few years (right after Smitten was released I think) and I now live in Raleigh where my wife is from. She’s never seen them. I told her the next time they do a show we’d book a trip up home (for me) so I was psyched when this show was announced.

First of all, Mean Creek rocked. Though I would steer clear of them if you happen to be from Belmont (I’ve known a few “Wat-rats” in my time…) As Chris put it, “Mean Creek are MEAN.” Seriously though they tore it up. The guitarist seemed to me to be a cross between Joan Jett and Amy Poehler (SNL) but she was awesome.

Second, Chris Campion read some from his book “Escape from Belleview”. About one third of the crowd was into it, one third oblivious and one third obviously just wanting him to get out of the way for BT. He seemed to revel in being in that situation and in fact one of his stories was pretty much about that. I thought he was pretty funny myself and I like the book so far. I think at this point Bill came out and they did a cool bit where he played audio backup for his story and then I think they did a Knockout Drops song.

Then BT came on, and they rocked for over two hours. As Chris had said, they didn’t do some A sides like sodajerk and velvet roof, but they covered so much ground that you didn’t notice too much. They played I think three new songs which sounded really good. I didn’t catch the name of the third one either but I liked it. Bill said they were trying to figure out what to do with them and at one point he said “maybe we’ll give them away, cause that’s what the kids do these days” or something like that. Hopefully there’ll be an album out of it soon.

I loved Darl, Mineral, I’m allowed, and just about all of ’em. But far and away the best moment for us was Larry. I’ve always loved this song and I was just psyched for my wife to get to see it live. Then in the middle of the song he slips into the lyrics to “Into the mystic” by van morrison which was our wedding song. I couldn’t have set it up better myself if I tried. Amazing. Red sox won as well.

They did two encores and someone joined them for a song or two but I didn’t catch who he was. Absolutely loved the show. Hopefully they’ll keep it going. I’d like to put in my pitch for them to play the Beachcomber again. If not maybe come on down to Raleigh – there’s a huge Boston contingent down here so they’d be well received.

Sorry so long. That’s my take
