I'm thinking J isn't actually a BT fan but rather a guy who may have had a real estate deal with Bill fall through or something. I love the "Wherefore art thou Johnny Carson? " line from Postcard. Perhaps the most memorable line of that album in fact.
Both Bill and Chris write excellent songs in my opionion. Chris's songs and writing have improved with each album and some of his best were on Three Easy Pieces I think. With that said, I don't think there is a need to put down Bill's writing, as the guy has written many great songs. Is it possible that he's had a line here or there that are sub par? Sure, but cut the guy some slack.
