I can foresee problems with the speeding up idea in those situations where there's two points in it with three questions to go. The sheer ecstacy that comes from finally remembering that Al Murray is Thackeray'a great great great grandson and thereby scoring the winning points could be lost forever.

The "shoot one of the buggers as soon as they give their running order" option on the other hand has great possibilities. Can we choose who gets the bullet? I fancy Martin might start turning up at 9.45, wading through the carnage confidently announcing the answer "Hera" and walking off with the points all on his own.

Live quiz executions on Channel 5 might knock Champions League viewing figures though.
