Let me begin with I dont own property in the Carden area,but am someone who enjoys what it has to offer a few times each year. I dont think me having an opinion is a bad thing,but do think it should be an informed one. Even if not to support or fight the project,but simply to be able to intelligently discuss things with other birders,who will undoubtedly be chatting about this.Not unlike mentioned in an earlier post,my first vision was of wind farms. Im told that most certainly during construction there was TEMPORARY displacement of some birds and animals,but that in the ensueing years all have returned and once again use the field.
Ive met some of the property owners on visits to Carden. One farmer approached us as we ate lunch in our car. He wasnt confrentational but merely wanted us to understand his side of things. His family had owned property on the Alvar for 100 years. He was readying to hang things up and wanted only a fair price for his property. If some endangered species were found,he didnt feell full value would be had. I can most certainly understand his plight,Id certainly hope for the same as he despite my love of nature/wildlife/birds.
Saying NO NO NO doesnt work. Noone can be happy all the time. We all use and need energy. What method of production will keep everyone happy? None! Wind,solar,coal or nuclear all have detractors and supporters.
Lets get informed before we voice our opinions be it privately to one another or in some more public way and lets respect one another while we do. Replies:
