Roy, I know not of what you speak as far as apathy goes. In the distant past you were involved directly with the association, why you ended your involvement is unknown to me. However, your current lack of involvement, with the association, is a direct sign of the apathy that Scott and I are referring to. If you wish to linger in the past and rehash old dealings, then, that is your choice.

We are all well aware that problems may arise in the future and that is why we continue to monitor the board meetings so we don't get caught with our pants down, ever again. It is very simple to sit and complain, it is another thing to recognize problems and present ideas to correct those problems. However, apathy, has many good minds sitting on the sidelines waiting for something to complain about and not have even a suggestion as to a cure.

Currently the association is a participant with the pension fund and we have been directly supportive of requested legislation on behalf of active and retired plan members. i.e.( re-marriage proposal, increased line of duty death benefits, etc.) The association has several board members that attend every board and when necessary address retiree concerns to the board. We monitor financial records and the standing of our fund and you and all retirees can rest assured that if any action taken or proposed by the board is perceived to be harmful to retirees that your board is prepared to bring, whatever issue it may be, to our membership to advise and seek direction as the steps that our members feel should be taken. This association is for the retirees and by the retirees, young and old, and is dedicated to protect, as much as possible, the rights and benefits of same, it is much easier to accomplish things with the participation of all our members. Unfortunately not all retirees are members, in part due to apathy and also to mis-conceptions of our association. The past is the past and we need to look forward to the future and concentrate on maintaining our benefits and improving any that can be improved.

By the way did you remember to mailm your vote? I know that Cochran got two votes mailed in from my house. I can also tell you that the last couple of board members were elected by retiree votes.

JJ
