There is one major issue here as well. There are cougar populations in Quebec, Ontario, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia in Eastern Canada. Recent DNA work shows these are indeed similar to the western cougar population. So if that is where our cougars appearing in New England are from (Highly Likely its closer), then why wouldn't they be protected? McCollough is still stuck on the outdated info that these are somehow transients from the Western US. There is already proof that the DNA is all the same, including some historic DNA taken from indian sites. So why is McCollough holding that outdated theory that they are all western stragglers, or of course, the classic "escaped pets"? That theory already has had numerous holes blown in it.
