OLEWINSKI, Richard Allen 58, lost his battle with cancer on Monday, Nov. 3, 2014. Survived by his wife, Vicki; children, Kelly and Jason; mother, Lorraine Leiness; brother, Randy Olewinski; sisters, Karen Krueger and Jill Kowalske; and mother-in-law, Carol Pohl. He was preceded in death by his father, Alexander Olewinski. After serving five years in the USMC, he joined the Tampa Police Department in 1979 and retired after 30 years. He worked as the executive security officer for the mayor of Tampa for eight years, four of which were after his retirement. Rick was involved in many of his childrens activities which included scouting, dance, music, and president of his sons soccer club. He enjoyed family trips to Disney and weekend jaunts with his wife visiting micro breweries in numerous states. Rick always enjoyed a good craft beer. His special hobby was the restoration of his 1974 Z28 Camaro. A visitation will take place on Friday, Nov. 7, 2014 from 2-3pm at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 3pm. Burial will take place at Sarasota National Cemetery on a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to GIST Cancer Research Fund by visiting www.GISTINFO.org.
