name change Posted on 3/11/2015 at 06:30:15 PM by Kevin Ruic
Life can be very interesting. Sometimes things happen that make you scramble and use your brain when you least expect it. When I decided to use the name Mansfield Motorsports Park for the reopening of the racetrack in Mansfield I checked for the availability of the name and no one was using it. Too bad I didn’t register it at that time. Never in my wildest dreams did I think anyone would register the name just out of the blue. That’s my fault because three months ago someone did just that and never told a soul they had done such a thing. An educated guess would be that they would wait until the business was doing well and file a suit looking for a big score. You know, at least Jesse James used a gun!
So, with all the printing done, the full color brochures sitting in boxes, the radio and TV ads produced and all the contracts signed with what is now a name that can’t be used it was time to make some changes. I looked back into the archives of the speedway and noticed that way back in 1958 the track was originally called MANSFIELD RACEWAY and stayed that way for a very long time. The decision was easy. Everything with the moniker ‘Mansfield Motorsports Park’ went in the trash and we now own the name ‘Mansfield Raceway’. Our in-house art department has tweaked the logo to show the change and the printer is tickled to death for all this new business.
By the way, just in case you were curious who registered the old name, it was a person that has absolutely nothing to do with auto racing. Say hello to the ex-owner who lost the business at a government auction several years ago when he refused to pay his taxes. Oh well, no animosity here. I wish him well and maybe someday I’ll find out why he thought it necessary to cost the track a couple of thousand bucks.
