Simulation Supermodifieds-Strickland Steals Everville Speedway Win Despite Late Arrival

Brian Strickland may not have been at the computer in time to spin hundreds of practice laps, but when he did finally show up in the server, he and his #7 Abreu Vineyards sponsored winged roadster never looked back, as he stole the fast qualifying time with a bold late-session run. Strickland, though struggling throughout the heat race with three spins, would go on to work his way up to the front from the ninth starting position in the forty lap feature event and roll away with the checkered flag at the three-eighths mile fantasy-based automobile racing facility named the Everville Speedway. Jarrett Emmerich in the #98 Tom’s Signs and Graphics car and Mike Bivins in the Crown Royal supermodified would each win their respective fifteen lap heat race.

At the drop of the green flag, the front row comprised of the #12 Truax Embroidery machine driven by AJ Truax and the #98 of Emmerich would set sail. For the next fifteen laps, the two drivers would slice and dice across the track with each driver giving everything they had to distance themselves from the other just to be reeled in during the next set of sweeping turns. Once the two leaders had pulled away from the field substantially, Emmerich tried a power move on the low side of Truax at the same moment as Truax barely holding onto his own car. The ensuing contact and spin from Emmerich would send each driver to the tail end of the field, continuing Emmerich’s long bad luck streak extending back into December of 2014 and making Truax’s chances of extending his own podium streak appear to be bleak at best.

When the green flag flew once more, the top four of “Dandy” Dave Soja, “The Middleville Madman” Brian Strickland, Art Palmer and “Crazy” Chris Meyers would go on to begin a twenty lap stretch of distancing themselves from the field. Meanwhile, the “second pack” led by the likes of Race2Play veteran Jan Sproule, making his UISR debut from north of the border, was slicing and dicing with former leaders AJ Truax and Jarrett Emmerich slowly regaining position after hard-fought position. Around the halfway mark in the grueling affair, Jeremy “Primetime” Prime would take a spin in the #12x Turn 4 Supermodifieds and All Things Wings/California Supermodified Series car, providing a much needed break for the field.

On the restart, the highest running Canadian in the field, Jan Sproule, would make a costly mistake of not knowing UISR race procedures and pass before the start-finish line. The ensuing stop and go penalty effectively eliminated Sproule from competition while running in the fifth position. Dave Soja and Brian Strickland would begin cutting across the track in order to try power moves on one another. In a frenzy to keep up with the pace, Soja’s Team Xtreme teammate Art Palmer would get on the gas a heartbeat too early, sending his #84 Ford powered machine around on the back straightaway. As this caution was coming out on the speedway, Strickland was past Soja on the low side of the racetrack, supplying him with the coveted race lead for the restart.

When racing went back underway, the running order of Strickland, Soja, Meyers, Emmerich, and Truax would once again begin the torrid pace that had been set as the precedent earlier in the race weekend. Emmerich would work the fall champion Chris Meyers for a handful of laps, sliding his #98 machine to the outside and chopping down low in the turns in order to trick the ten year supermodified veteran. The ensuing ten lap stretch would see Emmerich pass both Meyers and Soja in order to inherit the runner up position. With Emmerich slowly going to the front, he brought with him early race leader AJ Traux in the #12. As Emmerich began pushing his car, he eventually lost the handle on the overpowered machine, spinning with just ten laps to go. Per UISR procedure, he was parked for the remainder of the event for being involved in his second caution.

With just ten laps to go, the race would restart with Strickland, Truax, Soja, Palmer, Meyers, and Prime being the only cars left on the track. Shortly after the restart however, Jeremy Prime would go around for the second time and end the race for the only driver present representative of Up in Smoke’s West Coast contingent. Again, Prime would be parked for the night for violating the two caution rule. The race would finish shortly afterwards very quietly with Brian Strickland, AJ Truax, Art Palmer, Chris Meyers, and Dave Soja making up the finishing order.

This Sunday will bear witness to “the world’s fastest short track sim racecars”, the winged supermodifieds, competing for eternal glory in the Route66 Motorsports Twin 25s. This historic race will take place at “The World’s Fastest Half-Mile”, the Bristol Motor Speedway. Official league sanctioned practice will begin at 7 PM EST, with the drivers’ meeting kicking off at 7:45. Qualifying, 15 lap heats and/or B-Mains, as well as the feature events will follow as time and event pace allows.
