Sometimes the best laid plans of mice and men just aren't good enough. Mansfield Raceway was offered a Silver Crown race by USAC. Davey Hamilton and myself have spent way too much time trying to fit it into our schedule. There are just too many variables. First, there are only so many dates available for the cars and then we had to respect the ISMA Lorain show, the Sandusky Hi-Miler, the NASCAR race just down the road at Mid-Ohio and the contracted events we have with the Main Event, the MSA Supermodifieds, the Buckeye Super Sprint non-wing event, the Top Speed Modified Tour and the Rusty Wallace Driving Experience. We had just added the Auto Value King of the Wings Season Championship race for the Labor Day weekend when this Silver Crown offer was made. I seriously thought we could find a weekend for them but I won't cancel an event that is on everybody's schedule nor will I book a show on top of another track's major event. That said, forget the big surprise unless something opens up. Next year will be another story. Sorry about that! Replies:
