CHARITABLE ADVERTISING on Web Site There are many worthwhile charitable causes in existence, but we can only accept sponsorship or fundraising efforts on Fusilier Association websites, that specifically support approved Fusilier charities. This essentially means that it is acceptable to use these pages to seek sponsorship for The Fusiliers Aid Society (which includes Fallen Fusiliers), and The Fusilier Memorial fund only. We now have our own dedicated justgiving site (http://www.justgiving.com/fusiliersaidsociety), which you can use to help raise money for your cause. If you let RHQ (Asst Regt Sec) know the specific cause you are raising money for, it will be directed to the correct fund. Messages soliciting sponsorship for causes or charities other than the Fusilier ones mentioned above should not be placed on the message board and may be removed by the Webmaster.

Fusiliers and Richard 111 burial
IP: 86.140.174.164

Please can anyone I/D the RRF Sgt Ros Baston who was one of the pall bearers at Leicester ?

A Fusilier connection to Richard 111,present and also in the past

A soldier from Northumberland played a key role in “a piece of history” as they took part in the burial of a British King.

The reinterment of His Majesty King Richard III took place at Leicester Cathedral on Thursday, with an audience of millions worldwide and thousands of city onlookers.

And among the Army’s representatives on the day was Morpeth’s Sergeant Ross Baston, 35, of 1st Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, who was one of six pall bearers carrying the remains of the royal to his final resting place.

Morpeth musician Kathryn Lawson, 25, from the Regiment’s band also took part in the service, playing the bassoon with the Band of the Queen’s Division outside the Cathedral.

The medieval monarch’s remains were discovered in an old friary underneath a car park in 2012. The last Plantagenet King of England, Richard III died aged 32 in 1485 at the Battle of Bosworth – the last battle of the War of the Roses.

Ross was representing his Regiment at the service, alongside colleague Martyn Shenton, while two soldiers from the Royal Anglian Regiment and two from The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment also acted as pall bearers.

All three regiments form part of the present day Queen’s Division that is drawn from the former fiefdoms of those who fought for King Richard III.

Sgt Baston, who has been in the Army for 19 years and has completed tours of Afghanistan, Iraq and Northern Ireland, said: “It’s been a massive honour to take part in a piece of history. I was pleased and proud to represent Northumberland, my home county and one of the former fiefdoms of those who fought for the King.”

The Bearer Party move the coffin from an area of the cathedral, where members of the public had been able to pay their respects, to a central platform for the service.

Well done,regards William.
