The July fourth fireworks at Lorain County Speedway were plentiful both on and off the track. The North Coast Modified series ran their fourth fifty lap main tonight. In the Modified divisons preliminary events it was Matt Marlowe setting fast time with a 14.998. The Heat Race winners were Brad Copen, Sam Tanner and Terry Groner.
The Modified fifty lap feature closed out the evenings racing program. In the front row it would be Clay Pope and Steve Jones who was making his first appearence of the season. Jones took the early lead as Sam Tanner ran second followed by Pope, Ryan Cypher and T.J. Stineman. Jones held a two car length lead over Tanner with five laps scored. T.J. Stineman advanced to fourth and Mike Lawson was fifth. The caution flag was out on lap twelve.
On the restart it was Jones with the lead just before Pope slid into the infield in turn four to bring out the caution flag. This restart saw Jones lead followed by Tanner, T.J. Stineman, Tanner, Pope and Lawson. The caution flag waved again on lap fifteen for a multi-car spin in turn four. The race was red flagged at this point as points leader Kenny Phillips was off of the track and was stuck in the mud with broken steering.
When the race resumed the battle for the lead was between Jones and T.J. Stineman but the caution flag waved as Nick Wiery went into the infield with a broken tie rod. The restart saw Jones and T.J. Stineman battle for the lead with Stineman getting the lead as Jones spun on lap thirty three bringing out another caution flag. T.J. Stineman was the new leader followed by Jeremie Wiggins, Mike Lawson Matt Marlowe and Terry Groner. There was another caution flag with Ryan Cypher taken to the pit area.
The restart saw T. J. Stineman lead with Wiggins a close second followed by Lawson, Marlowe and Groner the top five. The caution flag came out again with thirty three laps scored as Steve Jones slid across the infield. This restart saw Marlowe challenge Wiggins for second and take the position. Marlowe, the fast qualifier tonight, started twelfth and would take the lead with just ten laps to go. Marlowe opened up nearly a half straightaway lead over T.J. Stineman enroute to his first Modified feature win of the season.
The Charger feature saw Jarred McCullough and Kyle Sedlacek lead the field to the green flag. Doug Voldan would brielfy hold the lead before Nicholas Wolfe took the point with three laps scored. Brandon Halcomb and Dan Smith advanced to the front of the pack to battle for the lead. The duo both held narrow leads but it would be Halcomb getting the advantage. Halcomb held on to take the checkered flag and win tonights Charger Dash, Heat Race and his fifth Feature race.
The Grand Nationals were up next for their Grudge Fest thirty lap feature race. Bob Lusetti and Ed Kerman made up the front row with Lusetti getting the early lead. Keith Platz, Stacey Gerken, Jeff Fade Jr. and Parker Ennes were the top five running order behind Lusetti. There was a battle for third between Gerken and Fade Jr. with Fade. Jr. getting the position. Lusetti held a comfortable lead over Fade Jr. before a caution flag on lap thirteen.
On the restart it would be Fade Jr., the 2014 Grand National champion, with the lead over Lusetti. Ennes ran third followed by Gerken and Platz the top five. Fade Jr. would open up a front straight lead over Lusetti to go unchallenged for the remaining laps to score his fourth Grand National feature win of the season.
The twelve lap Crate Sprint feature saw Chris Gibbs lead from the pole for the first lap. Xavier Howard would take the lead on lap two followed by Charlie Schultz, Gibbs and Mark Haury who was making his first ever appearence in a race car tonight. The battle for the lead would be between Howard and Schultz. Schultz would take the lead in the final laps for his first Crate Sprint feature win.
