July 11th PR for Sandusky Mid-Season Championship/Main Event Late Model 75

Sandusky Hosts Six Divisions for Mid-Season Championship This Saturday
(SANDUSKY, OH, July 8th, 2015)- This Saturday, July 11th, the Sandusky Speedway will host the Mid-Season Championship event presented by Matthews Ford. Two touring series, the Main Event Racing Series and the non-wing Buckeye Super Sprint Series, will join the speedway’s four weekly racing classes in order to create a can’t-miss event.
The Hoosier Racing Tire Main Event Racing Series will compete in a seventy-five lap event including stars like Jeff Ganus and Mike Mazzagatti. Ganus claimed the first two events of the MERS season including the season opener at Sandusky aboard the #5 Brian’s Direct Detail/Hutter Racing Engines car owned by Brian Short. However, Mazzagatti stole the most recent event at Midvale Speedway last Friday night, July 3rd, aboard the Holub Recycling/FLF Racecars #87. Both competitors are sure to be going for the win this weekend along with other standouts like New Philadelphia, Ohio’s Alex Rosenberry and defending series champion Harold Fair Jr.
The Pie Factory Buckeye Super Sprint Series will contest their fourth event of the 2015 season at the historic half-mile facility this weekend as Joe Speakman leads the point standings for the revamped non-wing division. In its prior incarnation, the series ran 305 cubic inch motors and enormous top wings. However, following an offseason meeting between series officials and teams, it was decided to open up the rules to allow bigger motors up to 410 cubic inches and remove the top wing in order to produce a less restrictive environment. So far, Speakman has taken full advantage of the rules package and dominated the series’ first two events only to lose a motor in the heat race at the most recent event on June 13th.
The modified division will finally return to the Perkins Avenue racetrack after three weeks off with Kenny Sharp leading the points standings by a lengthy margin with one feature win to his credit thus far this season out of four events. He is the only speedway regular to win a feature this season as Michigan invaders Travis Eddy and Joey Morrisette have each won a feature as well as Tyler Shullick, who is running a limited schedule this season in accordance with his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series responsibilities with ThorSport Racing. Look for Sharp to face heavy competition from short track aces such as Tom Joy, Jason Drew, Chris Hamilton, and Joey Wyckoff as he inches closer and closer to his first modified championship.
The Digital Yalo Ohio Stock division has seen Jerry Karl dominate feature action practically since inception in 2013 aboard the #42 United Cleaning Contractors/Erie Coast Customs machine. 2015 has proven no different as he has won five of seven feature events contested so far. However, he leads the points by a rather small margin over Rich Clingan and Julia Buckles, who are the only two drivers to stop Karl’s domination this season. Look for another fierce battle between these three veteran competitors.
The Milan Automotive Street Stock division features the speedway’s closest point battle heading into the Mid-Season Championships this weekend between Logan Cooper and Collin Penn. Cooper, riding the current of his best season so far with three feature wins out of seven events contested so far, leads the points standings by sixteen markers over Collin Penn, who won his first career feature win upon the big half-mile this season by holding off Cooper with side-by-side action for nearly the entire distance.
Kelly Lille leads the point standings for the Melinda! Melinda! Hobby Stocks and practically has the Mid-Season Championship clinched, needing only to pull into the pit area on Saturday in order to ensure her points lead at the end of the night over Richard Clem. Lille has two feature wins to her credit this season, basing most of her points lead upon consistency in preliminaries. However, up and coming star Brandon Short, winning his first ever feature last weekend in just his third start in a racecar, looks to steal another win although his points hopes are dismal at best after starting so late in the season.
The pit gates to the prolific facility will open at three o’clock with practice beginning at four. Qualifications at 5:30 will set the stage for the racing action, which is set to begin promptly at seven o’clock.
