I will remind everyone of this statement by Dr. Michelle LaRue of the cougar network last year. She had previously published a PEER REVIEWED PAPER stating it would take decades for a female cougar to be found East of the Mississippi. Note that she has examined the evidence, and changed her position, the proper thing to do. Michelle is a great scientist. Per the Cougar Network, they made the following statement in late 2015:
"Within weeks of our peer-reviewed paper suggesting females are likely to take 25 YEARS to recolonize parts of the Midwest, we have THREE females confirmed in Manitoba, Kansas, and now in Tennessee - hopefully she's still alive. It would seem we may have less time than we thought to organize our education and outreach! "
This was a PEER REVIEWED paper, but the facts turned out to be false, or better outdated. I commend Dr. LaRue for modifying her stance on this issue.
Again, our group is not criticizing the scientists, we are after facts.
Helen your group should be doing the same when new evidence comes to light. Replies:
