CHARITABLE ADVERTISING on Web Site There are many worthwhile charitable causes in existence, but we can only accept sponsorship or fundraising efforts on Fusilier Association websites, that specifically support approved Fusilier charities. This essentially means that it is acceptable to use these pages to seek sponsorship for The Fusiliers Aid Society (which includes Fallen Fusiliers), and The Fusilier Memorial fund only. We now have our own dedicated justgiving site (http://www.justgiving.com/fusiliersaidsociety), which you can use to help raise money for your cause. If you let RHQ (Asst Regt Sec) know the specific cause you are raising money for, it will be directed to the correct fund. Messages soliciting sponsorship for causes or charities other than the Fusilier ones mentioned above should not be placed on the message board and may be removed by the Webmaster.

Please see below, which has just been received from The Royal British Legion regarding imminent events. (Apologies for slight formatting errors which are unavoidable for technical reasons unknown).

1. Battle’s End – The Last Day of the Somme – 18 November 2016

The Royal British Legion, in partnership with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, will mark the centenary of the final day of the Battle of the Somme with a Drumhead service at Thiepval Memorial, at 13.30hrs on Friday 18 November 2016. The ! event will bring to a close our stewardship over the previous 139 days of the daily wreath laying ceremonies, whilst re-affirming the Legion’s commitment, through the Somme Branch, to its enduring annual role at Thiepval.

The event will be ticket only. To apply for tickets, please complete the online form at the following link: www.britishlegion.org.uk/18November from 5pm on Friday 07 October 2016. All tickets will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. Once all seats have been allocated, bookings will be closed.

Information to assist with your application:

Due to the current security situation, all attendees are required to supply security accreditation informat! ion.* When completing the online form, you will need to have t! he following information to hand for yourself and your guest: Date of Birth, Place of Birth, Passport Number.

To enable us to manage arrivals and departures, please use the attached Information Sheet as a guide and indicate on your application how you intend to travel to and from the event. Attendees will need to fund their own costs of travel and any accommodation.

2. The 75th Anniversary of the Arctic Convoys to be marked at a special event in Liverpool - 31 October 2016

Please note that relevant veterans need to express their interest to the MOD contact (details below) no later than Monday 10 October 2016.

The Ministry of Defence, together with Liverpool City Council and The Royal British Legion are inviting veterans of the World War II Arctic Convoys to a special day mark the 75th anniversary on Monday 31 October.

A reception at Liverpool Town Hall, with a later invitation to tour a Royal Navy destroyer moored at the city’s famous Cruise Terminal, will pay tribute to the many brave members of the Armed Forces and the Merchant Navy who endured what Winston Churchill once described as “the worst journey on Earth,” to help supply the Russian Front ! during the Second Word War.

Veterans and their families will be joined by Defence Minister, Lord Howe, the First Sea Lord Admiral Sir Philip Jones, and the Lord Mayor of Liverpool Councillor Roz Gladden.

Due to the nature of the event the invitation is only open to British Arctic Convoy veterans and their family member or carer as appropriate. Attendees will need to fund their own costs of travel and any accommodation. Those interested are invited to apply by no later than 10 October 2016 by emailing People-DSSec-CECTAug3@mod.uk

3. Suez Campaign at the NMA, 6 November 2016

The MoD in partnership with The Royal British Legion will mark the 60th anniversary of the Suez Campaign with a Service of Remembrance at the National Memorial Arboretum on Sunday 6 November 2016.

The 1956 campaign involved 100k UK troops in coalition with Israel and France in an invasion of Egypt with the intent of securing the Suez Canal. The offensive resulted in 112 British casualties. Due to the nature of the event, spaces will be limited to Veterans of the Suez Campaign, their carers and close family.
