SEABEES NEEDED FOR THE WAR EFFORT!!!
In early 1942 the war-time conversation between President Franklin Roosevelt and General Douglas MacArthur is reported to have went something like this..."General, tell me what is the most important thing we need right now for this war effort as things are in dire straits'! Without pausing for any more seeming to be called Presidential Pleading, the General blurted out, "more of those construction forces Mr. President....they called them selves Seabees standing for Construction Battalions....rag-tag bunch of the most unmilitary looking men that can be found on any side of this war...don't shave or get hair cuts....they are issued uniforms of the quality Army and Marines wear and right off they cut off the sleeves...they wear their covers backwards, if they wear them at all...they challenge each others trades abilities doing work that any tradesmen would envy....I'd like to get half million of those rag-tag, mis-begotten excuses for military troops Mr. President.. When will they be coming Sir.. please make it pronto"! Wilborn Replies: There have been no replies.
