FIELD PROTECTIVE VESTS EVALUATED...
IP: 72.222.137.3

20 January 1968 At 0845, two NMCB-5 trucks were ambushed on Route 9 between Dong Ha and Cam Lo. The enemy used small arms fire, claymore mines, and rocket propelled grenades. The two drivers, W.L. Daniels, EOH3 and J.T. Jaworski, EOH3, were wounded in the ambush.

Petty officer Daniels was wearing one of the newer, fabric vests instead of the usual 'plate' model... Daniels effected vest was kept in the S-2 office and DOD forms were filled out concerning the field-evaluation of the vests performance...it was a lengthy, seeming all-inclusive of pertinent facts...depth of suspect penetration, tears and rips, liquid penetration. Lt. Sell allowed the Battalion Gunny and I to report the facts on the form with our own descriptions...JW
