1967… the eight NMCBs of the 30th NCR completed almost 2 million dollars of construction in the I Corps tactical zone during March of 1967.
…CAPT A.R. Marschall, CEC, USN, COM30NCR, presented the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat “V” to LT H.E. Wilcox, SC, USN, NMCB-5’s Supply Officer.
1968…Seabee Team 0912 completed training at 31NCR and deployed to RVN via C-118 aircraft
…NMCB-128 celebrated its first anniversary of recommissioning with cookouts and parties held at the clubs and a softball game. In the evening, entertainment was provided by two stage shows. “The Psychedelics-A-Go-Go” and the “Soul Survivors”.
…Truoi River Bridge was blown by enemy action. …NMCB-121 completed the timber bridge at YD 837176.
…NMCB-62 participated in the Change of Command Ceremony at he 30th NCR when CAPT J.R. Fisher, CEC, USN, relieved CAPT C.W. Turner, CEC, USN, as Commander, Thirtieth Naval Construction Regiment.
…CBMU-301 celebrated it’s first anniversary. Anniversary cake was cut by LCDR H.A. Holmes, CEC, the unit’s first Commanding Officer.
…MCB-9 Detail Echo came under attack at 0225, receiving approximately 25 rounds of 82mm mortar fire. Seabee 81mm mortar and USMC 8 inch artillery fire was returned. Seven Seabee were wounded including CMHCN James F. Galati, USNR, who died as a result of his wounds at 1200 enroute to NSA Hospital, Da Nang. At 0710, the quarry cantonment sustained a second attack, receiving approximately 10 rounds of 82mm mortar and 57mm recoilless rifle fire, two rounds of which impacted within Detail Echo Mortar position #2. Five Seabees were killed and one seriously injured. Killed in action while directing fire against the enemy were BUL3 George R. Deshurley, BULCN Marl E Hodel, BUL3 Allan L. Mair, BUL3 John F Peek, and BUHCN James R. Retzloff, Jr. Subsequent investigations of the area from which enemy fire was initiated revealed that four Viet Cong positions were hit by the Seabee mortar crews’ return fire, killing at least nine enemy troups
1969…NMCB-58 Detail Foxtrot, consisting of 17 men , deployed to Bihn Son to perform repairs on the Song Tra Bong Bridge.
…CAPT C.G. Miller, CEC, USN, Chief of Staff CBPAC and CDR B.J. Hackenson, CEC, USN, Logistics Officer CBPAC visited NMCB-53 at Camp Haskins North.
…The NMCB-4/NMCB-12 BEEP (Battalion Equipment Evaluation Program) started and was completed on 14 Apr 69.
1970…During March, the major effort in the line of communication road upgrade program was again directed towards QL-1 south of Da Nang between the villages of Thanh Quit and Tu My. There was also a substantial amount of effort directed towards a 2˝ inch asphalt overlay of the Hai Van Pass.
1971…NMCB-3’s Alpha Company personnel replaced a culvert on QL-1 which was blown on 29 March.
…NMCB-3’s Detail Unicorn returned to Camp Haskins South from Phuoc Trach after completing its work.
1992…USS Missouri (BB63), the last active American battleship, is decommissioned
