CHARITABLE ADVERTISING on Web Site There are many worthwhile charitable causes in existence, but we can only accept sponsorship or fundraising efforts on Fusilier Association websites, that specifically support approved Fusilier charities. This essentially means that it is acceptable to use these pages to seek sponsorship for The Fusiliers Aid Society (which includes Fallen Fusiliers), and The Fusilier Memorial fund only. We now have our own dedicated justgiving site (http://www.justgiving.com/fusiliersaidsociety), which you can use to help raise money for your cause. If you let RHQ (Asst Regt Sec) know the specific cause you are raising money for, it will be directed to the correct fund. Messages soliciting sponsorship for causes or charities other than the Fusilier ones mentioned above should not be placed on the message board and may be removed by the Webmaster.

FUSILIERS MEMORIAL, GARDEN OF REMEMBERANCE PALACE BARRACKS

I am writing on behalf of the membership of the Northern Ireland Branch of the Regimental Association. We are currently trying to raise funds for the installation of a memorial to honour every member of the Regiment that lost their lives during or because of Operation Banner. The memorial will include the names, not only of those murdered by terrorists but those who suffered accidental deaths or took their own lives whilst serving in Northern Ireland. I should add that we are also collaborating with RHQ regarding this matter.
We have chosen Palace Barracks as the most suitable location for the memorial not only as it is in a secure location but because of its historic links with the Regiment. The Memorial Garden is located opposite, what used to be known as the wriggly tin and close to Sandy’s. The Garden is a substantial site and contains memorials to many of the units and individuals that served not only in Operation Banner but also in subsequent conflicts. To date we are still waiting for a full estimate of the memorial but we have estimated that we need to raise between £3000-£4000.
Our aim is to hold an unveiling ceremony in October 2018 as part of our contribution to Fusilier 50. We intend to invite known relatives of those on the role of honour as well as all the Fusilier community at large to attend the ceremony. We also hope to organise several events over the weekend including a coach tour around West Belfast and a function in the evening.
Our Branch was formed in 1997 and has the distinction of being the first exclusively RRF Branch formed. Living here in the Province means that Operation Banner is still extremely pertinent and in the case of many of our members who suffered physically and mentally it is still extremely raw. We can think of no better tribute to our Regiment than to record the names for posterity of those Fusiliers who gave their lives here. Their sacrifice was not in vain and should be remembered by our own and future generations, because of them and the countless soldiers who served here our children and grandchildren can now live and grow in peace. To this end we hope you can give us your support. Despite the changes here fund raising for any military cause is sadly still not that easy, so we are hoping for as much help from our Fusilier family across the water.
There are two ways you can donate for the memorial. Through the Fusiliers Aid, Just giving site by following this link; https://www.justgiving.com/fusiliersaidsociety It is important that you write ‘for N.I. Memorial’ in the comments box or we won’t receive your donation. It is also important that you tick gift aid as well, we will then receive £1.25 for every pound pledged. If you prefer you can donate by cheque, made payable to the Fusiliers Association Northern Ireland Branch and marked N.I. memorial on the rear. You can send the cheque to the below address:
Stephen Humphries, 36 Irvine Park, BANGOR, Co Down, BT19 7XR.
Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated. We will keep you updated regarding our progress and details of how to attend the unveiling in Palace Barracks.
