1967…LT N.T. Thurmond, of 31 NCR, conducted an Equipment Inspection on NMCB-71.
…Ten men from NMCB-4 departed for Saign to rehabilitate the roof of the OICC BOQ, a 27’x54’ reception area and a new 18’x40’ threater of wood frame construction.
…The NMCB-4 Detail at An Hoa began installation of runway lighting.
…NMCB-3 Detail Storm Delta 1 increased to 12 men, transferred from Hue to begin construction of the 3rd Marine Division’s Chapel.
…NMCB-1 detached one officer and 32 men to the DMZ area to construct bunkers for the 3rd Marine Division at Cua Viet, Gio Linh, Dong Ha, Camp Carroll, Con Thien, and Khe Sanh. The detail returned to base camp of 30 July 1967.
…One nighttime artillery attack at Dong Ha
1968…At 1100, elements of NMCB-74 Detail Victor,at 0508569, L6342, Series 2, received 81mm mortar and small arms fire resulting in 1 WIA and damage to 1 rock dump. At 1240, the Detail was again received harassment from Claymore mines and small arms fire, again resulting in 1 WIA.
…The NMCB-4 pipeline crew came under sniper fire at YD 575312 along Route 1. No personnel were injured.
…On the morning of 10 July the MCB-74 quarry detail was attacked twice by 81-mm mortar, RPG, and small arms fire. At approximately 1100 one Seabee received minor wounds in an attack 10.5 miles west of the Dong Ha Combat Base. …MCB-3 begins its 4th RVN deployment setting up base camp at Camp Faulkner. With this deployment MCB-3 became the first Construction Battalion to have made 4 consecutive deployments to RVN
1969…NMCB-58 began the repair of major washouts of the runway and taxiway shoulders of the west runway at the Chu Lai Airbase. The repairs were effected using laterite, compacted rock, and asphalt. Work progressed satisfactorly until late July due to lack of sufficient funds to complete the original scope. Work resumed in early August only to be stopped again due to lack of availability of mineral products. The project was turned over to NMCB-7 at the completion of the deployment.
…NMCB-128 was assigned the Alpha and Lima sectors of the Quang Tri Combat Base defense perimeter.
…An NMCB-62 Detail Barracuda 2 ½ ton cargo truck detonated a mine while turning on a shoulder northeast of Elliot Combat Base on QL-9 (L7014, YD003566). The truck was badly damaged, but the driver was not injured.
