THE FOUNDERS OF THE LF WEB SITE THE LATE CAPT. JOE EASTWOOD BEM AND COLIN BOUTTY WERE BOTH FIERCELY ENTRENCHED IN THEIR INTENT AND ADAMANT IN THEIR BELIEF THAT THE LF WEB SITE SHOULD REMAIN AN INDEPENDENT ENTITY AND FREE FROM OUTSIDE INFLUENCE. IN FURTHERANCE OF THAT END ALL SUGGESTIONS THAT THE WEB SITE BE ALLIED TO OR INDEED INTEGRATED INTO THE FUSILIER ASSOCIATION OR ANY OTHER GROUPING WERE FIRMLY REJECTED. THE ETHOS OF INDEPENDENCE REMAINS THE SAME. :SMILIES (Emoticons)
The exercise of authority over others

The string below regarding the Parade Ground brought to mind an incident that perhaps others can recall? In early 1967 at Weeton Camp, the whole battalion was ' paraded ' in a packed Camp Cinema to be addressed by the CO Lt Col TD Jones. My poor memory tells me it was regarding the forthcoming tour to Hong Kong? RSM ' Jack ' Nash was stood down at the front of the stalls and stated that once the CO and his entourage entered the auditorium through the door at the rear of the stalls area, everyone stood were to stand firmly to attention and those seated had to ' sit to attention ' Ha Ha. Dire consequences awaited anyone who moved a muscle or blinked an eye!
Whilst awaiting the arrival of the CO the gathered troops were permitted to talk and there was a general noisy hubbub throughout the Cinema. During this time RSM Nash was marching back and forth along the front row of seats keeping a careful eye on the door at the rear of the auditorium. Then, above the general hubbub, the RSM stated very loudly as the rear door opened, " KEEP QUIET ".....the silence was instantaneous! Not a cough nor shuffle was heard...absolute and utter silence.
I was absolutely dumbstruck at the reaction to his ' order '. I recall to this very day the incident as though it was only yesterday. That simple order was in my view the ultimate exercise of authority over others. Stunningly effective. Impressed?...just a bit LOL
Anyone else recall it?
