THE FOUNDERS OF THE LF WEB SITE THE LATE CAPT. JOE EASTWOOD BEM AND COLIN BOUTTY WERE BOTH FIERCELY ENTRENCHED IN THEIR INTENT AND ADAMANT IN THEIR BELIEF THAT THE LF WEB SITE SHOULD REMAIN AN INDEPENDENT ENTITY AND FREE FROM OUTSIDE INFLUENCE. IN FURTHERANCE OF THAT END ALL SUGGESTIONS THAT THE WEB SITE BE ALLIED TO OR INDEED INTEGRATED INTO THE FUSILIER ASSOCIATION OR ANY OTHER GROUPING WERE FIRMLY REJECTED. THE ETHOS OF INDEPENDENCE REMAINS THE SAME. :SMILIES (Emoticons)

Good afternoon Tina and a warm welcome to the LF Web Site.
Now then...Your dad most probably served in the 1st Bn LF who served in Kenya from October 52 until August 53 and as you say we're involved in dealing with the Mau Mau problems. If he joined at the age of 18 then in all probability he was a National Serviceman. (Compulsory Military Service). Many members of 1LF at the time were National Servicemen whose period of service was normally for two years. However, some who served in Kenya had their service extended by a further 6 months because of the ongoing problems.Copy/paste the link below to your browser and you can read all about the tour of Kenya. The link below that is a link on how to obtain his Service Record. Download the form, complete as much detail as possible, and send off to the Records Office in Glasgow.
Many former LF's who served in Kenya look in on this message board and may recognise your father's name. Do you have a photo of him in uniform at that time that you can scan and forward?
ATB....perhaps get back to us when you have his Service Record?
Regards
Geoff Pycroft
