Sen Kamala Harris has it all figured out: handouts equal votes – even if the promise falls flat when others will not go along. BUT others have to go along with the give-away because failure to do so makes them look bad whereby they lose votes. Handouts such as this means my taxes won’t go as far on funded programs – so our taxes will rise to offset the shortfall. Oh, and lest we forget, there is a cost to administering this NEW program whereby the tax rise will be more than just the money being given away!
Perhaps if there is a genuine problem in making ends meet by the groups on which Kamala Harris is focusing, a reduction in federal income tax rates or a revision in the tax brackets might be in line. Such revised rates/brackets could be more focused on individuals exposed to the greatest risk in making ends meet – like head of household versus single. And I think the administrative costs of revising such tax rates/brackets would be less!
