The below-linked article about the effect of the shutdown on a federal contractor, estimated that as many as 5.3 million federal contractors are being affected by the shutdown.
(Even though Trump says that many of those affected by the shutdown are in favor his shutting down the government over the border wall, I would think that this situation could result in a lot of negative votes for him in the upcoming presidential election---particularly among the federal contractors, who will not be receiving any back pay when the situation is resolved. [When the federal contractors' wives are added in, that could add up to about ten million negative votes!]).
