While doing my daily walk I passed the house where classmate Ike Hayward lived for many years until he retired back in Charleston, S.C. and finally "slipped the surly bonds of earth" in 2002. Then I recalled that I'm the surviving one of the four of us from Charleston as Archie Beckmann and Gerald Carter have also left us. Yep time marches on and we just have to greet each sunrise with thanks for "another day in which to excel"!And as the Last of the Charlestonians I'm happy to be called Charlie or Chuck but never Uncus as the Mohican was called I believe.
