Camp Wilkinson, was named for CM1 Jack W. Wilkinson, East Islip, NY, Killed In Action August 30, 1967 at Phu Bai while serving with NMCB-3. The camp was part of the Camp Eagle complex, about six miles southeast of Hue, the country’s ancient imperial capitol at Gai Le. MCB 3 dedicated there camp, Camp Wilkonson, in his name on December the 5th 1967

DCR Report:
…During a Viet Cong mortar attack on Phu Bai Combat Base, NMCB-3’s camp was hit by one 105MM howitzer round from friendly artillery. The round impacted in the enlisted berthing area, killing CM1 J.W. Wilkinson and YN3 D.C. Coker, and wounding nineteen. BUC Ware, GYSGT Lopez, and DT2 Ferch were cited for heroism.
