In Memory of
Steelworker (Erector) Third Class Thomas John Eischeid Let us not forget Steelworker (Erector) Third Class Thomas John Eischeid, casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Navy, SWE3 Eischeid served our country until May 23rd, 1968 in Danang,Quang Nam Province, South Vietnam. He was 19 years old and was not married. Thomas died in the line of duty. His body was recovered. Thomas waas born on September 23rd, 1948 in Halbur, Iowa. He served our country for one year.

Accidental Shot Fatal to Eischeid

Halbur - SWE3 Thomas J. Eischeid, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. George V. Eischeid of Halbur, died Thursday, May 23, of injuries received earlier this month when a weapon was accidentally discharged in his barracks at Camp Haskins, Da Nang, Vietnam. The body will be brought to the Twit Funeral Home in Carroll, where arrangements are pending. The Halbur youth, who was serving with the United States Navy Seabees, entered the service in December, 1966. He was born at Carroll Sept. 23, 1948, the son of George Vernon and Helen C. Eich Eischeid. He was a member of St. Augustine Church, Halbur. He received his education at St. Augustine School and Kuemper High School, Carroll, graduating in 1966. Surviving with his parents are seven brothers and sisters: Mrs. Duane (Diane) Brant, Gildden; Donald, stationed with the Seabees at Oxnard, Calif.; Shirley, Vernon, Randy, Gene and Geralyn, all at home.
