GROUND CASUALTY
SWCN Gary L. Mercer was a Steelworker serving with Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit 301 (CBMU-301), 3rd Naval Construction Brigade, U.S. Naval Forces, Vietnam. On June 8, 1970, SWCN Mercer died at a CBMU-301 worksite at Chu Lai in Quang Tin Province, RVN, where it was reported he was found dead at 7:00 AM of what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
