Steel Worker 3/c U.S. Navy, Vietnam War-Petty Officer Cain was killed in the line of duty by small arms fire on 8-5-1967 while serving as a Fabricator with DET TAN MY, Navy Support Pact, Danang, US Navy FORV.
Final Mission of SWF3 Forrest E. Cain
BM2 Kenneth R. Brown was a boatswain’s mate and SWF3 Forrest E. Cain was a steelworker. Both sailors were assigned to United States Naval Support Activity (NAVSUPACT) Da Nang, USNAVFORV, which provided logistic support to all U.S. Forces in the 1st Combat Tactical Zone of Vietnam. On August 5, 1967, they were traveling in a jeep when they were ambushed in the vicinity of Phu Vang, approximately three miles northeast of the Hue Citadel, Thua Thien Province, RVN, when fired on by a sniper. The attack caused the vehicle to lose control and collide with a telephone pole. Both Brown and Cain suffered fatal injuries in the incident.
