You know, it has been said that a country gets the government it deserves. Afghanistan will certainly return to chaos, but I ask, just as with all the dysfunctional nations that bleed emigrants to the rest of the world, why don't they stay home and reform their countries? That probably means revolution all over the place, but we can't fix those countries. No external power can establish a functioning liberal government except by huge, long, national effort in which that power is under deadly threat (as was the case in Germany and Japan after WWII). That threat was what energized the Allied powers, but it certainly doesn't exist for us as related to Afghanistan, Iraq, Venezuela, Ecuador, or Syria, or any other.
