I once considered retiring in Maryland(Annapolis) vice Virginia.

I find it hard to believe that Maryland gets a very favorable rating for taxes. Maryland had more kinds of State,County and City taxes than Virginia and the rates were higher for the taxes we had in common. The Estate Tax was particularly egregious. I decided I would rather have my heirs benefit than Maryland.
