Coots, Grebes, and Pipits

Today there were 11 American Coots at the Bracebridge Ponds - ten bunched together in cell 1 and one on its own in cell 2. There were also two Pied-billed Grebes in cell 2. Three Northern Shovelers, a Northern Pintail, and six Lesser Scaup were in cell 1. A large flock of American Pipits had been at the dumping ponds, but flew up when a backhoe drove into the area. Many of the Pipits ended up at the back of the gravel area north of cell 4...some were checking out the freshly dumped piles of dirt there.

note: if entering the Lagoons from Kerr Park, the old path has been fenced, but you can still enter via the gate where the tall weeds have been cleared. The gate will appear to be locked (on purpose I've been told), but the rusty chain can be lifted up over the fencepost so the gate can open. Put the chain back on the fencepost after entering.

The Muskoka Bird Board is a place to share reports of birds and other nature sightings in Muskoka and surrounding areas. You may also post a question about birds or birding in general. You don't have to include an email address in your post. Remember to include the location of your sightings - even the nearest town or major crossroads would be fine. See the Posting Guidelines for more information and helpful tips about using the Muskoka Bird Board.
