During the day, sentries guard the sleeping. When the sky is dark and the moon dances with the stars, this is when the real fun begins. Munashii Gekko's forest is the only haunt where you can find your local misfits all in one place. A land of the forbidden and forgotten, a place that is riddled with dangers of a whole different kind. The wolves here have long misplaced their rightful minds, and now live like creatures damned to prowl and lurk through the night. It's easy to lose yourself here, sanity was sure to fade away and wither; there was never anything normal about this nefarious nest. The silent threats that whispered in the breeze were enough to deter even the largest of demons around. It was not strength nor wit that ensured your survival here with Eric, and challengers would be torn down with a morose lethality - there was nothing left in his cold blue eyes that promised mercy to anyone who dared to overstep their worth. So, would you give up the sun for the moon and stars? Do you have enough vigor to become a well regarded sentry? - Put on a game face to step up and pass the sepia king's test or turn and leave before he catches your scent. You never know who wants to snack on your delicious blood in this forest.

It was a testament to how well they knew each other that a look could say everything. One look at him and every subtle movement, every change in body position told more than words could. Hope found it amazing that most wolves ignored the body language and waited until they pissed another off enough to make them snarl to back down. Even then they grew obnoxious and flippant, thinking themselves better, like puppets dancing on strings. They thought words were all important, they listened and spoke and relied only on what you said back. They took no notice of the shift in body posture, had no idea the tail levels, the ears, the eyes. The tensing of muscles could tell stories, but they sought only words. Hope felt sorry for this young pup, but even he would do better than the wolves out there. He would learn to pick up on the shifts in the air, to listen to the changes in voice and if he survived, he would be a testament to what it meant to be a wolf. At least, Hope hoped that he would be, for the bond she shared with her brother seemed something rare when it should not be.

Her gaze turned back to the little one when Silence had stalked off, a soft smile on her features that he would not see. He had shrunk back a little, as if sensing the anger from Silence, and Hope wanted to curl around him protectively. "Do not worry about him, he's a grouch at the best of times."

The water was far enough that she knew he would not be able to walk. Even if he could, she wouldn't allow him to. It was easier to carry him, easier to let a bit of the healing power flow through her if she had him in her jaws. Just enough to take the edge off the sickness, just enough to make him more comfortable. For once she was glad for the power that had long ago been forgotten. It was something there that she had practiced long use with, something she had trained with because she did not know when they might be called on to fight again. It was something that was there but becoming faint memory. That they might still practice, that they might still train did not matter. So long with it that it became natural, it was also time to let it become such a part of herself that it was very deep. Only for that female in the Cold Summers pack had she brought it into the open, and only then because she had been sought out by Waptumewi. And now, now she would use just a little because it was unnoticeable, because the pup was blind and young and she felt the longing to care for him. Just a touch of it now because she knew that in the end he would have to learn to survive by himself. Just as they all had to in the end.

"Here now, it won't be a long journey but only if I carry you." And gently she leaned forward and grabbed him by the scruff, allowing a brief moment for him to realize that she had him and sent that faint healing power down through her and into the fur in her mouth. It was brief and light, as if to wash away the surface hurt and maybe give that edge of trust to him. Then she was off, not daring to move too fast lest she shake him up and bring the cough back to the surface. A light trot and then they were by the river, in a spot she chose that was not fast in it's running and not very deep. It would do no good to have him stumble into the water and float away.

She put him down a short distance from it, not wanting to scare him into thinking she was going to drown him herself. Even after she set him down, she gave another small lick to his head as if she were unable to resist the instinct to comfort him. In truth, it felt good to have someone else to look after for a while, someone else in need. It gave her something to do other than wait and challenge her brother to fights that were becoming less mock and more irritation. "If you need a drink, the water is not deep."

She trusted him not to step too far into it, knowing that being blind did not make him stupid. When he felt the water at his paws, he was likely to stop...if not, then perhaps he deserved to be carried away. Hope could not abide stupid wolves. Her haunches lowered where she was then, front paws walking forward until she lay out on her stomach. Her tail curled a bit in around her left side, blue eyes focused on the pup which she had brought over. While she wished to care for him, she also did not want to smother him with affection. So she would let him decide what he would do, and merely watch with a patient eye.

"I am called Hope."

She put it out there once he was settled, knowing that her brother's name was the only one thrown about. Names did not mean much to her, but at least it gave the pup something to go by. It could inspire trust, hate, fear, and yet it was only the vocal sound to identify a certain wolf. Funny things names were. Nothing, and yet everything.
