the rules on coins. [everyone please read]

A lot of people seem unclear about the rules on coins and what you can do with a coin. Doesn't help that I haven't updated the rules yet, I know, but I'm pretty sure most people wouldn't read the rules anyway ;P So I've put it here.

ONE COIN can always be traded for:
- One standard power, eg telepathy, telekinesis, invisibility, etc. Extreme powers require permission/additional coins.
- An ordinary familiar. Extinct, mythical, imaginary, magical and shapeshifting familiars cannot be traded for for one coin.
- The opportunity to choose gender, name and appearance for one baby when breeding. If you would like twins, this costs two coins; if you would like triplets, this costs three.
- Territory leaders can trade coins for LP. The current coin/LP exchange rate is 1 coin = 50 LP.
- Can be used to remove a defect, but ask about it first.

What a coin will NOT get you:
- Curses or blessings.
- Extreme powers.
- Points.
- Extinct/mythical/shapeshifting/magical familiars.
- Powers for your familiars.
- Powers for any character OTHER than the character who owns the coin.
- Land points for a non territory leader.

Extreme powers usually mean powers which could be interpreted as powerplaying, eg hypnosis, possession, emotional manipulation etc. Weaker forms of these powers are often allowed for one coin, but for the full power you must obtain permission and will probably be expected to spend at least three coins.

Curses and blessings do not equate in terms of coins and can only be given out by a divine being. Want one? Better get plotting. They also usually tend to be unique, so don't expect to be able to get the same curse/blessing as anyone else.

Extinct and mythical familiars also do not equate in terms of coins. I'm frequently asked "how much would it cost to get a dragon/whatever familiar?" and frequently have to explain that it's not the coins which count but the permission. Mythical/extinct familiars are often allowed for extra coins but not always, and there is no specified cost for an extinct/mythical familiar.

Powers for familiars can only be obtained with special permission. Mythical familiars have no powers of their own - eg a dragon does not have fire-breathing, as this counts as a magical power.

Powers which incorporate more than one ability (e.g. - bad example, I know - temperature breath gives the beholder fire breath AND ice breath) will cost more than one coin.

In terms of trading coins for land points, this an option only available to an official territory leader. The official territory leaders are the ones listed in the table on the inner border page; if your character is not listed there, they cannot trade for LP.

Coins cannot be traded between characters and cannot be used to give other characters powers/etc. I was previously a bit lenient on this rule but I'm now enforcing it for everyone, because I think people take advantage of my leniency and also I don't think it's fair to allow it for some people and not for others. There'll be no getting around this rule, IC or OOC, from now on.

Any further questions about coins, feel free to ask. =]
