Lilith sat atop her steed as he galloped across the empty ground. There was concentration on her face, her muscles were tense, but the stallion beneath her (who she had named Topaz) was enjoying the release more than she was. Usually in this sort of situation Seth would have taken her flying, but he was off hunting, which he did a lot more often now that he was ‘wild’. Eventually they had to go back to the core though…
They turned themselves towards the castle and continued, at a slower pace this time, but still quickly. She couldn’t keep Topaz out much longer, he was getting tired. She could feel it. So they headed home, to the stables. When they got there Arthur was polishing the leather tack, and she sighed softy. Topaz’s ears flicked back at the sense of her discomfort and she patted his neck softly, before taking the reins and making him trot over to Arthur. Once the stallion stopped and she dismounted before patting his neck softly and letting him lower his head and eat some of the hay that was loose on the cobbled floor.
Lilith’s eyes finally turned to Arthur, and from her silence she knew he would tell that something was wrong. But there was no point in getting angry with him about it. Not yet. Not when she wasn’t sure.
“Arthur. Do you remember that night… a few weeks ago?” She’d forgotten to drink her tea afterwards… It was her fault too. “I mean… it was over a month ago and…” Her eyes darted away from him and she fingered the ends of her shirt nervously. “I’m late, Arthur.” She didn’t look up, but if he didn’t get what she was talking about, he was a simpleton. Just wait for it to click…. Wait for it…
