The silicon chip inside her head got switched to overload

Nobody’s going to go to school today, she’s going to make them stay at home

Her daddy doesn’t understand it, he always said she was good as gold

Lilith woke suddenly at the burning sensation in her head; the dream had passed with a more vivid image of Mallos’ laughing face replacing it in her waking mind. She shuddered and pulled on her clothes and boots, before leaving the house and looking up at the night sky.
He’s coming…
It was almost the sound of Seth’s voice, but she knew that was impossible, he was off hunting, storing up enough food in his large belly to last him a week or two. Also, the connection was still not there. She grasped for the threads of her magic fleetingly, spreading her mind out to everyone, everything in shaman, just briefly touching them as her wings spread and allowed her to float up into the sky. Something was different. That burst of Mallos’ mind didn’t just happen. It was like when the volcano had erupted, when the connection with Seth had broken. It was the third curse, it just had to be. But what?

Then the sight of a wall of water coming crashing through silver cove, so far away, hit her mind. It was the image from someone else’s mind, but she could use it. Her telepathy linked her to everyone in the Labyrinth, and to as many surrounding people she could find, screaming the words “flood, get to high ground!” She did not know where her mother was so she darted into the house, pulled her siblings from their beds, all of them, and dragged them outside.
“What’s happening, Lilith…?” Said Minn quietly.
“Why does the air feel funny?”Murmured Kaala, looking up at the cat-girl with stormy grey eyes. “Something’s wrong, isn’t it?” Lilith wasn’t going to lie to her siblings.

“You have to be brave for me now, kay?” She looked at them and smiled softly. “Go wake up as many people as you can, don’t take too long. Make as much noise as you can, get them out of bed, out of their houses. Everyone has to be awake.” She smiled as her siblings nodded. “Back in five, here, kay?” The children darted off in separate directions, and she headed to another house. She didn’t bother knocking, there was no point. She barged in, banging on all of the doors.
“Everyone up! Up NOW!” She was loud when she wanted to be, of course she was. She was Mallos’ daughter, she could make a room tremble with her presence. “Everyone up and out of this god damned house unless you want it to be your tomb.” Once she was satisfied she moved out, grabbing a bag and shoving all of the food she could find in it before realising she’d taken too long. The earth was rumbling, and she ran outside, wrapped her arms around her siblings and closed her eyes.

But the wall of water didn’t swallow them. Instead they were in the air, watching the water rush beneath them. The sound of wings took a few moments to register in her head as they moved towards the Core, the place that the water couldn’t seem to reach. A sigh of relief passed through her as she saw Seth’s body above her. Even though he was just an animal to some, there was no link there, he couldn’t just stand back and not do anything.
It seemed like no time at all before Seth was putting them down on the ground outside the castle. Lilith let go of her siblings and smiled at them.
“Where’s mummy?” Minn asked, looking up at her with those beautiful sea-coloured eyes.
“She’s in the castle. Go find her, take Kaala and everyone else.” She smiled proudly at her siblings as they bravely went inside the castle. Once they were gone she turned to Seth and wrapped her arms around his large neck. He rumbled quietly before nodding his head and flying off. Her heart panged as the creature flew away, probably going to help more people. She sighed and slid onto the ground, her body shaking as her mind opened and felt the suffering, the terror of all those people who couldn’t make it here, but had made it to higher ground. She tried sending images of the castle to them, in the hope they would get the message and make their way here.

Finally, exhausted she closed her eyes, giving into the pain and confusion and terror that was consuming her. She wanted nothing more than to have Arthur wrap his arms around her and tell her that everything was going to be alright, or to hear Seth’s snarky comments in her head about her being a cat surrounded by a world of water. The cat-girl felt naked, vulnerable, and if this was only the third curse…
The first had not affected her daily life as much, she had adapted to the lack of sun and the ash. She had adapted to not being able to converse with Seth, but he had still always been there. But this, being stuck in the castle? She looked at the bag of food she had grabbed.
That wouldn’t last long… but it was something… Something at least…
