The effects of the second curse have worn off, and we have re-established the connection with our familiars. This means that familiars can speak again, have telepathy with their fairies and (for high level fairies) can use their fairies' powers again. This also means boundary limitations are back in place.
For the plot posts in the 3rd curse contest, play it as if the connection isn't there if you still haven't entered yet but intend to.
The ash cloud still hangs over Shaman and the effects of the famine are beginning to set in.
